research has shown that protein takes more than 50% more energy to consume.

let me explain this a bit better. we have a basal metabolic rate. that is the number of calories our body burns while resting. our body exerts energy while eating, sleeping, breathing, and more obviously, when we move and workout.

so, our body burns calories when we eat carbs or protein or fats. but it takes more energy for our body to digest protein.

ideally, you should be eating somewhere between 0.8-1 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. if I weight 125 lbs, I would consume roughly 100-125 grams of protein per day.

it's important to remember that carbs and fats are also EXTREMELY vital as well. that is why it is called a macro. I will delve into the importance of carbs in your diet in another post.
